NewYork Times API :- Access NewYork Times Data and hack it

Due to the emergence of Citizen Journalism and Web2.0 emergence well established newspapers is facing lot of problem. So they are trying to innovate and trying to cope up the situation using the potential of Web2.0. Recently four Top Newspapers in Japan joined hands  and released mobile applications to provide their content . Now  The NewYork Times has opened  its data for developers . Oxite:Microsoft’s Open Source CMS

Microsoft released an Open source CMS that can be used to develop small blogs to big websites. The CMS (Content Management System) has been named as Oxite .

This CMS has been developed in  ASP.NET MVC and SQL Server . It provides everything a blogger needed like anonymous or authenticated commenting, comment moderation, gravatar support, RSS feeds, pingbacks, trackbacks, SEO optimized clean URLs, multiple blogs.

Unlike WordPress and Blogger Oxite is too complex for consumers and this has been developed from coders point of view so that they can use Microsoft

technologies .

Microsoft seems to be inspired by the success of WordPress and trying to grab the land for Microsoft technologies in fast growing CMS market .

85% compnies using open source-Gartner

Eighty-five percent of companies are already using open-source software, with most of the remaining 15 percent expecting to do so within the next year, according to analysts at Gartner.

Gartner conducted its survey of 274 end-user organizations across the Asia/Pacific, Europe and North American markets in May and June, and announced the results .

Reason for using OSS(Open Source Software )by compnies  are

1. Lower Cost of OSS

2. OSS provides some protection against single-vendor lock-in

3. Fast time to market

4.Avoidance of complex procurement rules and procedures,

Gartner also raised concern over lack of formal policies . According to “a lack of formal policies could open companies up to intellectual-property violations.”

In terms of the business processes for which open-source software is being used, customer service headed Gartner’s list, although enterprise integration, finance and administration and business analytics also showed strongly.

Python: Build AJAX Apps in Python

Now there is a good  news for Python people.Now it is possible to to build AJAX apps in Python also which was a constraint earlier. Everytime when you would see Google Web Toolkit you might be furious why Java not Python. This problem has been solved by pyjamas.

pyjamas is a stand-alone python to javascript compiler, an AJAX framework / library and a Widget set API.If you want to write web applications in python you have every reason to wear pyjamas.

Yahoo Browser plus is now Open source

Good news for open source community .Yahoo BrowserPlus, the technology platform from Yahoo that lets developers to create rich web applications with desktop capabilities, is going open source.

It seems Yahoo wants to compete with Google Gears with this move.

WordPress : 3+ Million Download

WordPress has touched yet another milestone. WordPress has crossed 3 million mark. It has been a great achievement for WordPress and shows the growing clout of WordPress in blogging realm.

At exactly 9:25 PM PST today, the download counter at WordPress touched the 3 million mark.

That means WordPress 2.6 self-hosted software has been downloaded more than 3 million times from wordpress.org.
